2017 Chapter Meetings/Events:

Here’s a rundown of the meetings and events that we have coming up this fall:

September 12th  – Chapter Meeting, Speaker: Captain Chris Karwacki  of Chesapeake on the Fly  – Fly Fishing and Light Tackle Charters

Captain Chris will be discussing Fishing in Tangier Sound, and surrounding areas.
Chris is a third-generation angler who has spent his entire life fishing the Chesapeake and the coastal bays of Maryland and Virginia. During the mid-90s he began fishing the Tangier and Pocomoke Sounds almost exclusively in order to pursue the speckled trout and striped bass that thrive in the surrounding islands, marshes, and grass flats of the region.   To Chris, there is nothing more rewarding than providing a high-quality experience for his anglers.  Whether it is a first-ever-caught fish, or catching a trophy fish on the fly rod, anglers tend to fall in love with fishing in this beautiful and remote region of the Chesapeake Bay.

September 29th – October 1st – Huk Performance Fishing/CCA Maryland Red Trout Tournament, Crisfield MD

From September 29th through October 1st 2017, fishermen from all over the region will come to Crisfield to enjoy fishing this two day tournament amongst Tangier Sound’s many creeks, rivers, and islands. The Red Trout Tournament is a catch, photo, release tournament that allows anglers to enter a three fish stringer each day, of any combination of Red Drum, Speckled Trout, Striped Bass, Bluefish, or Flounder. The Crisfield American Legion is the home base, and will be the location for the Captains Meeting on 9/29, Tournament party on 9/30, and Lines Out/ Awards Presentation on 10/1.

October 10th  – Chapter Meeting, Chapter Meeting, Speaker TBD.

October 21st/22nd – Reef Ball Construction Event at South Lakes HS, Reston VA -
As part of our “ The Oyster Reef Habitat Project”, Coastal Conservation Association’s Northern Virginia Chapter has scheduled our second Reef Ball Construction event of 2017.  The hours will be from 9:00 to 1:00 each day.  We are asking for volunteers to help contribute to this very exciting event.
Some of the jobs needed are:
•        Assisting students with Construction
•        Hospitality(food and drinks for the team)
•        Public relations and photography.
•        Transportation/delivery driver
There are always other things that we will need help with – so please volunteer for this very worthwhile event.  We look forward to working with the teachers and students at South Lakes HS on this very exciting project!
Northern Virginia member Rich Redler is the Team Lead for this initiative, which has become the epitome of a truly joint team effort of dedicated volunteers across the age spectrum who are committed to enhance the environment of one of the world’s great estuaries.
Vulcan Concrete is providing the concrete and its delivery at no cost to CCA. This is a special concrete designed to withstand the salt-water environment of the bay.  At their Shady Side facility, the Chesapeake Bay Foundation(CBF) will place the reef balls in tanks, oyster larvae will be introduced, and they will attach themselves to the reef balls.  When the spat are large enough to move, CBF will transport the reef balls with spat onto the Tilghman Island reef.

November 14th  – Chapter Meeting, Speaker TBD.

Meetings take place at Neighbors Restaurant, 262 Cedar Ln, Vienna, VA 22180

We have the special meeting room from 6:00 – 9:30 – and many will be showing up for dinner at 6:00.
Guest Speaker’s presentation will start at 7:00. The wait staff at Neighbors will gladly serve us beverages throughout the evening, but if you plan to eat dinner, it might be best to arrive at 6:00.

*Neighbors management provides CCA with this room free of charge, and although you are not required to purchase food and drink, we encourage you to order, and enjoy!
